Starting March 2026, Samuel Gui Yang is looking for a proactive, highly organised and reliable Design Intern to support the design team for a one-year FTC role at our friendly and creative studio.

Responsibilities:

As part of the team, design intern responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

• Working closely within the design team
• Assist during fittings - taking fitting photos and design team notes
• Carrying out seasonal research
• Updating seasonal CAD drawings after fittings
• Maintaining seasonal overview as designs change
• Making mock-ups, drapes, 3D experiments, toiles
• Assisting Atelier and Development & Production teams when necessary (e.g):
• Assisting with basic pattern amendments and copying paper patterns 
• Assisting with making and amending in-house samples – preparing fabrics/fixing buttons/labels/loose stitches 
• Assist with fabric / special trims and fastenings sourcing 
• Fabric and sampling development
• Design admin - filing / organising etc. 
• Supporting day-to-day studio operations, including organisation, upkeep and maintaining essential supplies

 
What we are looking for:

• Confident in using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
• An understanding of garment construction and pattern cutting
• An enthusiastic and positive can-do attitude
• Strong work ethic
• Highly organised and pays attention to details
• Forward-thinking, reliable and flexible
• Chinese language skills are desirable

While working at Samuel Gui Yang, you will learn / we will teach you:

• The creative process and how we develop designs in collaboration with pattern cutters, machinists and manufacturers.
• How to take a garment from the initial idea through to sample making and then bulk production
• A better understanding of garment construction, pattern cutting and different techniques that are used in manufacturing on a range of garment types.
• Excellent knowledge of fabrics, trims and components, their properties and how to work with a variety of fabrics.
