About: Mary Katrantzou's collections revolve around icons of luxury, ideas in art or design that a woman would not be able to wear if it were real. She allows women to wear the beauty found in design, in a subversive way, now boasting 250 stockists ranging from Colette to Selfridges and Barneys and collaborations with 'Atelier Swarovski' and Couture house 'Lesage, Longchamp, Topshop, and denim brand Current Elliot.

She has also received awards for her innovation in Textiles, winning the Swiss Textile Award in 2010. In November 2011 Katrantzou was awarded the British Fashion Award for Emerging Talent: Womenswear and in February 2012 was awarded Young Designer of the Year at the Elle Style Awards.

The Design Team at Mary Katrantzou is offering a Student Work Placement for enthusiastic and highly motivated students to join the team for the months leading up to the SS19 Fashion Week and surrounding projects.  This role would suit a creative, enthusiastic and hard-working student who wants to apply their technical knowledge in a professional environment.  Candidates MUST be students undertaking an industry placement as part of their course.

Working closely will all members of the Design Team, this position is dynamic, challenging and will cover the following tasks: 

  • Visual research and sketching
  • Digital print mockups on Photoshop
  • Illustrator technical flats
  • Maintaining moodboards and other visual boards both in the studio and digitally
  • Assisting in fittings and model castings for the show
  • Assisting in daily studio errands when needed

Candidates must possess the following skills or have previous experience with the below: 

  • Strong Student level Photoshop and Illustrator skills
  • Good communication skills and eagerness to learn and help where needed
  • Professional attitude and punctuality
  • Meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Good communication skills and an interest in working with a dynamic team. 
  • A positive approach to your work with a great 'can-do' attitude. 
  • Enthusiasm to learn on the job and high motivation to contribute to the team.
  • A good understanding of the design process, potentially alongside some good pattern cutting experience.
  • A keen interest to learn and be taught new processes and techniques.

What you will learn / we will teach you:

  • Candidates will learn how to carry out proper visual research for silhouette and print
  • Candidates will be taught Photoshop techniques and Photoshop rendering 
  • Candidates will be taught how to do Illustrator technical flats used for technical packs 
  • Candidates will learn the infrastructure of how a design studio works and how the collection develops across the given season
