We are currently offering a Print, Embroidery and Fabrics Student Work Placement for students seeking an industry work placment to assist the team working closely with the design department providing support to the team in a fast pace company.  We are looking for individuals who are reliable, able to work independently as well as in a team. 
 
What you will be doing:

  • Assist the senior designers to create artwork for print, embroidery and other textile applications 
  • Checking, amending and adapting prints for sampling and production to ensure quality is consistently high
  • Checking, measuring and recording sampling fabrics as we receive them in-house
  • Sourcing fabrics/trims for seasonal collections
  • Assisting with fabric archiving
  • As well as print, general assisting duties are required as part of the wider creative team

What you will learn / we will teach you:

  • Print & fabric research: A student will be shown how to properly research a theme to collect a rich variety of inspiring imagery that will be the starting point for all further development in print, fabric and embroidery. After an introduction, students will be expected to carry out this research independently and after editing, collate it into research boards.
  • Scanning in pattern for placement prints: Accurately scan and piece together a pattern in photoshop ready for engineered print and embroidery design. Students will learn how to check they have the correct pattern pieces, how to lay then out in photoshop and check that pieces they are the correct size.
  • Colour Swatching: Students will be taught how to swatch colours for digital printing and dying fabric, match fabrics to pantones and create digital colour standards to be used in print design. 
  • Archiving: We carefully archive all seasons samples and vintage references. Students will be taught how to photograph, document and archive clothing and keep records of clothing that is being sent out and returned to the studio. 
  • Learning about working with mills and agents internationally: Students will learn the process of fabric development such as how we communicate with suppliers, request fabric hangers and how to meet with and select fabrics from agents. 
  • Presentation Boards: Students will be shown how to collate fabric, print and embroidery development to put together clear design boards for meetings.
