About: London based menswear label - Berthold is characterised by a utilitarian sense of colour and silhouettes free from defined shapes; nylon, neoprene and synthetic fabrics cut against natural wool and cotton.

This work placement opportunity is for students undertaking their industry placement to join our studio team from October onwards. We are a small studio and you will be involved with every step of making, preparing and launching a new collection. This placement is available for Students looking to start their placement from October 2019.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist the design team in all duties necessary
  • Research and development
  • Pattern cutting and creating toiles
  • Work on graphics on Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Create tech packs for manufacturers
  • Run errand

Profile:

  • Currently enrolled at a University/college, ideally a fashion design menswear course
  • Student level Illustrator and Photoshop experience
  • Student level pattern making, sketching, sewing ability
  • Sociable, reliable and self-motivated

What you will learn / we will teach you:

  • You will be part of the studio team and will be involved in every aspect of the collection and gaining a better understanding of the industry. 
  • Pattern cutting, sewing samples and attend fit sessions. You will be hands on with the toiling process to achieve the Berthold silhouette. This will include making new patterns and interpreting the designs from idea through to finished product. 
  • Research for the new season as well as making moodboards to tell a story. The moodboards and research will also be used to sketch ideas for garments, finishings and accesories.
  • CAD. You will help create the technical drawings for the new seasons line sheet as well as print design ideas, invitations for private events and more
  • Fashion production: Visiting the factory and assisting the studio manager with quality control, tech packs, dropping off samples and picking up finished production.
