About: The Switch Label works to innovate on everyday used products with modernity and sportiness to help riders in the challenges they face. The idea behind The Switch Label arose when we realised the amount of technology involved in the practice of various sports and the benefits these had on the safety, injury prevention and wellbeing of its participants. We specialise in garment tech for these industries.

The Switch Label is a start-up, based on jubilee campus at the University of Nottingham, which aim is to enhance safety and wellbeing in the equine sector with innovative technological products.  This project is about creating a new horse-riding legging with added features such as the integration of silicone . The student role will consist in designing and prototyping a horse-riding legging that integrates sportiness, practicality, sustainability and durability.

The successful candidate role will include:

  • Product design: Based on the idea and a sketch from the founder, the successful candidate will think of a proper design that includes the different features of the sketch and will give their opinion on what fabric would be the best and what techniques should be involved in creating the sample.
  • Prototyping: Realisation of a sample to be tried out. This should be done with a perspective of putting the product onto the market so thinking about the amount of fabric needed, the cost involved etc.. will be crucial.
  • Branding: Creativity will be key as this product will be part of a brand, and we would like to have an element to differentiate from competition with discrete but visible design.

The project will immerse you in product development within the start-up environment. This will take place by working closely with the founder and will require organisation and critical thinking.

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and driven individual to prototype Equinov’s first piece of clothing.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to see the project from scratch to a finalized prototype ready to be on the market.  A knowledge and experience with horses is desirable but not mandatory.
