About: Launched in 2012 by Central Saint Martins trained designers Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding, palmer//harding is a designer brand know for their directional, creative and effortless approach to shirting. Initially launched with only a small range of white shirting the brand has now grown to encompass all aspects of a casual designer wardrobe. At present the brand creates 2 main collections a year which are shown on-schedule at London Fashion Week as well as 1 mid season collections. Intermixed between these seasons are occasional projects and exclusive ranges developed for key accounts.

The brand caters to the style conscious woman of all ages who appreciates the mix between timeless design and modern flare. They have become best known for their volume in shirting and the effortlessness with which their designs are worn.

palmer//harding is offering a Production Student Work Placement opportunity for Students undertaing their industry work placement.  As a small team we work closely with our Students.  We give a lot of time dedicated to supervising and training our interns so they become part of the team.  You will gain invaluable experience being able to work in a small team and assist in all sides of the business.  This is such a great opportunity for a student who is looking to go into the fashion business industry.

What you will be doing:

  • Assisting team in managing the pre-, during- and post-production process
  • Studio administration, helping organise departmental data storage, archiving and ensuring accurate stock quantities; tracking material and samples
  • Assist the production team in preparing for fitting sessions
  • Collate materials and send them to factories all over Europe
  • Specific responsibilities will also depend on skillset of the candidate
  • Working with limited samples you will help ensuring to the PR team the product availability for talents

What you will learn / we will teach you:

  • You will become familiar with the design process from research & development to production - At palmer/harding the production team works closely with the fabric researcher and product developer together, in your role you will learn not only about the tasks of the production team, but also will have the chance to help out other teams. While your placement you will learn the specific jobs in the industry to allow you to choose the right path for yourself
  • You will expand your knowledge in garment constructions (e.g. construction, fit, and production process awareness)
  • How to prepare sample packs to sent to factories to produce pre production sample while fabric and material for the bulk production will be separated with your help
    You will learn how to adapt to a fast-paced work environment by juggling - With multiple collections a year we are multi tasking.
  • You will learn to interact and communicate in a design room setting with factories - Motoring all raw material stock arrivals from supplier to factories and in-house. Communicating material stock to production team and creating packing list to factories an updating and maintaining raw material stock
  • How to interact and communicate in a design room setting
    How to adapt to a fast-paced work environment by juggling multiple seasons and collections simultaneously
