Roksanda Product Development team are offering a Work Placement opportunity for Students to assist with the making of the next main and pre-collections, you will get to experience all the stages of developing a major womenswear collection. Successful candidate will experience how the sampling department interacts with the design and production teams.  This role will be a very hands on experience inside one of London's most exciting fashion brands.

Suitable for applicants who are presently studying a fashion degree or on the placement year.  We cannot accept Graduates for this role.

Certain repated travel expenses during Work Placement are paid.

What you will be doing:

  • Assisting product development team with all aspects of toiling
  • General workroom organisation and day to day duties
  • Liason with pattern cutters and machinists,
  • Working alongside sample cutter, technical team
  • Hand finishing final samples including embroidery,
  • Assisting with finishing trials,
  • Seasonal fabric testing and documentation
  • Assisting at the photoshoot
  • Backstage help during London Fashion Week and or seasonal photoshoots
  • Assisting with show prep

Skills / Experience:

  • Solid knowledge of fabrics and garment construction
  • Sample cutting experience is prefered 
  • Confident in hand/machine sewing with particular attention to hangd sewing and hand finishing.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills will allow the right candidate to effectively work closely with the Roksanda team in a harmonious and efficient manner
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English
  • Logical and methodical approach to all tasks
  • Candidate must have a positive and proactive attitude and be comfortable working to tight deadlines and in high pressure environments.

What you will learn / we will teach you:

  • How to work along side and support an experienced team of Product Developers, Pattern Cutters and Machinists. Working with such a talented team is a fantastic way to develop your own list of talented contacts to help develop your career. It is very useful to have a contact list with a specialised skill set.  
  • How to work with industry standard machinery, including flatbed, overlock, babylock, fuse press, as well as specially hired seasonal machinery to assist with finishing.
  • You will have a hands on experience working in a team preparing for London Fashion Week, including final garment prep and finishing, assisting in styling and back stage dressing with the rest of the team.
  • You will be visiting Factories and develop an understanding of the importance of factory relationships, and the vital role they play pre production to assist a large brand's initial sampling. 
  • With a modern approach to pattern cutting, you will be trained to use Gerber, which will include the initial starting point of digitising a hand-drafted pattern. You will be taught pattern cutting rules. For both manual and digital.
