About: René Scheibenbauer is a London-based label, launched in 2018 after the designer graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2018 where his collection was awarded the runner up of L'Oréal Professional Young Talent Awards. Exploring the therapeutic qualities within clothing and movement, René Scheibenbauer utilises interdisciplinary performance as a design methodology. For his research Scheibenbauer formed a therapy focus community within which a focus on the emotional link to clothing as well as social and collaborative aspects is placed, which is integral to design development and presentations

René Scheibenbauer is offering a Studio Student Work Placement opportunity for students seeking an industry work placement as part of their course.  While assisting, this will be a great opportunity for the you to get to work closely in the team where you will be assisting with pattern cutting, working on mock-ups, toiling, and production related tasks such as research, linesheet making, communication with manufactures.  The given tasks will give you a better understanding of pattern cutting and machine sewing as well as organisational and planning skills for putting together a fashion collection as well as steps that are required to prepare a collection for production.

What you will be doing:

  • Pattern Cut and manufacture development toiles
  • Sourcing Materials
  • Organizing the studio space and pattern archive
  • Communicate with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Create spec sheets, line sheets, flat drawings

What you will learn / we will teach you:

  • Strong knowledge of understanding Pattern Cutting and Machine Sewing and Fabric Cutting
  • Techniqual skills involving how to handle different fabrics, working with trimms and making finishings
  • How a small studio organizes and prepares a show
  • An understanding of design critical path
  • How a small studio organizes and developes a collection for production
  • How to build a collection and range planning
  • Communication skills
  • Creating spec sheets, line sheets, flat drawings
