About: Preen was founded in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, with a joint love of all things Victoriana, a passion for recycling, and with that masculine and feminine, hard/soft mix the couple bring to their designs. Their debut collection at London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2001 composed of punkish elements; vintage lace and hand crafted effects, this collection received rave reviews, described as a sartorial traditional clash, with a very British sense of tongue-in-cheek chic. Liberty Ross wore their ‘rosary bead’ blouse to the British fashion awards straight from the runway, putting Preen firmly on the fashion map.

The Production team at PREEN is currently offering a Work Placement opportunity for enthusiastic, hard-working students to come and experience the day to day running of a luxury fashion business. It is a busy environment in which you will need to apply the best of your multitasking, organisational and time management skills.

While supporting the Production Team you will be responsible for and learn the following:

  • Allocating and dispatching bulk raw materials to manufacturers – You will learn how we allocate raw materials for bulk production and communicate with manufacturers to ensure production runs smoothly.
  • Local fabric and trims sourcing – You will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with fabric and trims suppliers in London.
  • Creating production packs for samples/bulk production.
  • Quality control – You will learn what the standard quality of a high-end garment is and gain an insight into how we liaise with manufactures and problem solve.
  • Allocating, packing and dispatching customer orders – You will learn how to check orders received against delivery notes.
  • During certain periods, you might be asked to carry out tests for dying and trim manipulation.
  • An opportunity to help backstage at London Fashion Week.

Skills ideal for this work placement:

  • A genuine interest in fashion production
  • A keen eye for detail
  • An organised and methodical approach to working
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently when required
  • Friendly and approachable with a positive attitude
  • Good verbal and communication skills

We are a super friendly, supportive team and welcome students from different backgrounds, from Fashion Design, Textiles, Development, Business, Production etc! If you feel confident in your ability to execute the tasks listed above and have a willingness to learn, feel free to apply for an interview.

Student Work Placements range from 1-6 months and are preferably full-time, although we do welcome part-time. Please note this Work Placement is not for students who want to improve their pattern cutting, technical drawing or advanced sewing skills. We are unable to provide working visas.
