Norton & Sons is looking for an experienced Alterations Tailor to join our workshop team, working on tailored menswear and womenswear to the standard our clients expect from Savile Row.

The successful applicant will carry out alterations on tailored garments including trousers, waistcoats, jackets and overcoats, working to a very high standard throughout. This is a bench-based role within the workshop.

What Norton & Sons is looking for:

• At least 2 years' experience in alterations
• Experience working with tailored menswear and womenswear
• Experience working with handmade, bespoke tailored garments
• Strong hand sewing skills
• Confident use of an industrial sewing machine and overlocker
• Hand finishing techniques, such as handmade buttonholes, are preferred but not required
• Understanding of how different fabrics, e.g. wool, tweed, linen, silk linings, behave under alteration
• Precise, accurate work, particularly with measurements and fit
• Ability to work well under tight deadlines, including last-minute requests
• Organised, with the ability to multitask
• Good written and spoken English
• Friendly, and willing to work as part of a team
• Open-minded and happy to get involved in other areas of the workshop when needed
• Right to work in the UK
• References from employers in tailoring
• Ability to construct a bespoke basted garment is a bonus
