About: Located in the heart of Chelsea, Phillipa Lepley is London’s go-to atelier for beautifully tailored, bespoke one-of-a-kind luxury Wedding and Evening dresses. Famed for stunning floor-sweeping couture gowns, incredible body-sculpting corsetry, custom embellishment and hand-worked silk veils, Phillipa Lepley is where the journey to a statement, bespoke, stand alone dress begins and ends. With over thirty years under her creative belt, Phillipa and her multi skilled artisan team work between the shop and the nearby Atelier creating all the gowns from scratch.

We are seeking a full time (very experienced) Couture Machinist / Seamstress with a minimum of 5 years experience in the bespoke Couture Bridal or Eveningwear field. Strong technical knowledge of fabrics, garment design and construction, a meticulous eye for detail and immaculate sewing skills with very high standards.  Corsetry experience would be a bonus.

About the role…

  • The ideal candidate will have experience working within a luxury atelier, creating toiles, first samples, show pieces & couture pieces and have experience with working closely with the Pattern Cutters and Atelier Manager to ensure the highest of standards are met.
  • Experience with classic and new techniques.
  • Resolving any issues with the make-up of garments.
  • Achieve finished garments made and embroidered to the highest quality.
  • Ensuring samples are ready in a timely manner.
  • Atelier location – Chelsea SW3 

About you…

  • It is essential to have lengthy experience within the industry of at least 5 years.
  • The perfect candidate will ideally have experience of working with various fine fabrications including for example silk chiffons, silk duchesse satin, silk organza. Magic hands !
  • The ability to hand sew with the finest precision when required.
  • You will have previous experience within fast paced environments ideally having worked within an atelier in the run up to a fashion show / special event / shoot.
  • You will also have excellent communication skills both written and verbal and work well within a team and on independently.
  • Extremely meticulous and detail oriented.
  • The ability to multitask and demonstrate flexibility.
  • A good team player.
  • A professional and discrete attitude.
  • Highly driven and pro-active.
  • Highly creative individual.
  • High understanding of couture garment design, construction and fabrication.
  • To have previous experience working for a couture house or environment.
