Richard Quinn is seeking a skilled and technically proficient Embroidery & Textile Designer to join our dynamic London-based studio in Bermondsey, London.

This role requires a designer with a strong technical understanding who is confident in developing print and embroidery ideas and translating these into accurate artworks for development and launch with our external suppliers.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Richard Quinn design team, contributing to womenswear collections shown at London Fashion Week and sold internationally.

The Role of Embroidery & Textile Designer

The Embroidery & Textile Designer will develop embroidery concepts and bring them to life through detailed swatch development, technical packs, and close collaboration with our external embroidery suppliers. 

Suitable applicants will be confident designing embroidery placements across pattern pieces and engineering embellishment layouts accurately, ensuring developed swatches translate correctly to scale within considered, beautifully crafted layouts.

Key Responsibilities of the Embroidery & Textile Designer:

• Develop embroidery from initial concept research and swatch development with our external embroidery factories through to artwork placement on digital flat pattern pieces and final production launch.
• Generate embroidery concepts that align with the house aesthetic while introducing fresh and innovative ideas.
• Develop detailed embroidery swatches to explore materials, stitch techniques, textures, embellishments and finishes with our factories.
• Translate creative ideas into clear and comprehensive technical packs, including artwork, material specifications, placement, scaling and construction notes.
• Engineer precise embroidery placements across pattern pieces with a strong understanding of garment construction and proportion.
• Work closely with our existing external embroidery houses and exporters in India to develop, refine and perfect samples.
• Provide clear technical communication to craftsmen to ensure the design intent is fully realised throughout sampling and production.
• Manage sampling timelines, approvals, revisions and quality control to ensure exceptional standards are maintained.
• Troubleshoot and problem-solve technical challenges during development and production.
• Work within agreed pricing and budgets and negotiate with suppliers when necessary.
• Work effectively within tight lead times while remaining mindful of production requirements.

What Richard Quinn is looking for:

• Talented graduates with strong technical portfolios.
  Ability to be part of the team that manages embroidery projects from concept and sampling through to final production.
• A strong technical understanding of embroidery construction, stitch techniques, materials, embellishments and finishing processes.
• The ability to create detailed swatches and produce clear, comprehensive technical packs for external suppliers.
• An understanding of working with external exporters and embroidery craftsmen; experience working directly with Indian suppliers is advantageous.
• Highly detail-oriented, methodical and technically precise.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate creative ideas through clear technical design packs.
• An awareness of costing and the ability to work within budgets while maintaining luxury standards.
• A refined luxury design aesthetic with an eye for feminine, couture-level embroidery.
• Self-motivated, proactive and able to work effectively in a fast-paced studio environment.
• Experience within a luxury or couture womenswear environment is a plus.
