About: Notable Designs is a brand agency and distributor focusing on design led stationery and goods for living. We represent over 20 brands and work with some of the UK's leading retailers. We operate both B2B and B2C ecommerce sales channels in addition to our B2B landing page and social channels.

We are looking for a highly organised, motivated individual to take on the role of General Manager at Notable Designs.  You will be a self-starter; someone who can keep up with the pace and 'hit the ground running'. We are a small but dynamic team, so there's no room for coasting along. If you're driven to succeed on your own initiative and you take pride in your work, then you'll fit in nicely. We're all hard workers, unafraid to get stuck in and most importantly, we're all passionate about our brand. We're a happy and relaxed bunch in the office - the team works well together and we'd love for whoever joins us to mesh well too.

Role summary

As General Manager you have overall responsibility for the general operation of the business, including our team, projects and everyday operations.  In a nutshell, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth, seamless running of the business.  This role is initially for a period of maternity cover (on a 12 months contract) with the possibility of a permanent contract at the end as we would love for whoever takes this role to stay on permanently.  The role is wide and varied and you will be contributing to all areas of the business in one form or another.  Preference will be given to candidates which have an understanding of our market sector.  A background in fashion or lifestyle goods is an advantage.

Some of the things you will be responsible for include:

  • overseeing the daily operation of the business
  • ensuring the team have everything they need to perform their roles
  • engaging directly with our B2B clients, managing their orders and ensuring we have everything we need in place to meet their deadlines
  • attending trade shows with our Business Development team
  • overseeing special orders and projects, or orders from clients with special requirements
  • recruiting new staff as needed
  • managing holiday and similar requests
  • design and contribute to ideas and strategies for the growth of the business
  • preparing regular reports for upper management

Skills / Experience:

  • some form of managerial experience (preferably in a capacity relevant to this role)
  • knowledge of the retail sector a definite advantage
  • experience dealing with merchandisers / buyers an advantage
  • excellent organisational skills
  • basic computer literacy including MS Office, etc.
  • excellent communication skills
  • you will have a good level of spoken and written English
  • you should be a ‘people person’ with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; this is especially important for creating a rapport with clients and with your colleagues
  • you should be able to demonstrate a calm and collected manner, remaining professional and composed under pressure; dealing with international clients can often throw up a myriad of challenges so you will need to be able to confront issues head on.

  • client retention and engagement in a previous role
