About: We’re not just saying it, Matalan really is a great place to work. We’ve got a real family friendly culture, which is just one of the reasons why we have so many long-serving colleagues who love what Matalan is all about.

We recognise and listen to our Matalan Family members and really value the contribution they make – after all, we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing people!

Ask anyone who works here why it’s such a great place to be, and without exception, they will say it’s our people who make us what we are.

From day one we’ve been a hugely popular and innovative retailer, a pioneer in out of town shopping and a real family value-led business in every sense. Many people say we actually invented Value Retailing!

Matalan started in 1985 from humble beginnings when our founder, John Hargreaves, opened a market stall in Liverpool with a vision to bring quality fashion and home products to families at a price they could afford, giving customers the great value.

  • Conduct market research, identifying Matalan's competitor ranges and key trends for the season, creating and presenting these
  • Provide the ‘key trend'’ information, fabric and colour palettes to the Buying teams
  • Conduct competitor & directional shop research, updating trends, colour and fabric information as required to ensure Matalan's ranges are in line with the industry
  • Conduct factory visits and competitor shopping trips, producing full reports which will be fed back to the Buying and Design teams
  • Liaise with suppliers on product and design details, providing advice on initial samples, ensuring that manufactured products match initial design specification.
  • Liaise with the Buying team to understand the costs and margins needed to make sure that the range can realistically be bought with-in the given budget
  • Working as part of a brand team of designers to create a complete look.

About You:

  • Experience within a design-related role
  • Proven experience of designing Menswear ranges for retail
  • Educated to degree level within Fashion Design

  • Ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines

Founded in the early 1980s by John Hargreaves in Liverpool, Matalan is proud to serve its customers excellent quality at great value. With over 200 stores in the UK, a growing online presence and over 15,000 employees, working here is exciting, challenging, and above all fun! As part of the Matalan family, you can expect some great benefits and the opportunity to be part of our exciting vision - to become the UK’s most trusted value retailer. This is Retail Made Real.
