The Home Production team at River Island plays a key role in providing an in-house supplier service, producing unique styles created by our Design and Buying teams.

This is achieved by working closely with Buying, Fabric, Design, Pattern Cutting and Merchandising teams.

HP is responsible for producing and delivering finished garments from concept to carrier bag, meeting the need for fast fashion by reacting quickly to current trends.  The Pattern Cutter ensures samples are made in production friendly way.

The Pattern cutter works closely with the Design, Buying and Technologists in creating technically correct patterns that are 'Production friendly' as well as commercially and technically viable.  

Key Accountabilities of the Pattern Cutter

• Create and amend production-friendly, defect-free patterns on Gerber from first Design through to production 
• Create and update specifications, sketches and paperwork accurately 
• Organise workload in collaboration with peers/team 
• Understand product requirements through developing good relationships with Designers and Production peers, asking questions to understand and providing expert pattern fitting advice to ensure “Right First Time” fit as often as possible 
• Ability to fit a garment and attend fit meetings 
• Provide support in speed to market meetings, ensuring requirements are fully understood in order to provide patterns that support “Right First Time” fit and are cost effective and easy to produce 

What River Island is looking for:

• Extensive experience as a Gerber Pattern Cutter
• Experience of working on Womenswear Clothing and track record of being able to interpret patterns with an eye / accuracy for detail 
• Experience of dealing with similar products and fabrics that feature in our product range
• Knowledge of Gerber CAD pattern cutting program
• Excellent verbal reasoning and writing skills 
• Good interpersonal skills 
• Team-oriented, highly collaborative 
• Work quickly, accurately and efficiently, with a high level of attention to detail 
• Highly organised, good prioritisation and time management skills 
• Disciplined and conscientious, results-oriented 
• Resilient and adaptable 
• Good grading knowledge
