About: Founded in 2017, Cawley is a London-based clothing brand with a focus on natural materials, considered design and local manufacturing. Our collections are developed in our South London studio and produced in close collaboration with specialist makers and factories.

Starting ASAP, Cawley Studio is looking for an experienced Pattern Cutter with a strong understanding of garment construction, fabric behaviour and traditional pattern-cutting techniques, who enjoys working collaboratively within a small studio environment to join the small team in Deptford, South East London.

Working closely with the founder and design team, the Pattern Cutter will translate design concepts into technically resolved patterns, maintaining the intended silhouette, proportion and fit of each garment.

The Pattern Cutter will be involved throughout the process, from initial patterns and toiles through fittings, amendments and final production.  The role spans our seasonal womenswear and menswear collections, alongside bridal and special projects.

Key Responsibilities of the Pattern Cutter:

  • Create and develop patterns from sketches, reference garments, existing blocks, draped concepts and design direction.
  • Translate design ideas into technically resolved garments while maintaining the intended silhouette, volume, balance and proportion.
  • Develop patterns through toiling, fittings, amendments and final production approval.
  • Apply pattern-cutting, draping and construction techniques across a range of garment categories and fabrics.
  • Work closely with the founder and design team during fittings to refine garment shape, fit and construction.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges relating to fit, fabrication and garment construction.
  • Develop and refine existing patterns, ensuring consistency of fit across collections.
  • Prepare accurate production-ready patterns and communicate technical requirements to our London-based sampling and production teams.
  • Support the development of bridal, bespoke and special projects where required.
  • Manage pattern development in line with seasonal deadlines and production schedules.

What Cawley Studio is looking for:

  • Proven experience in pattern cutting within a contemporary designer, luxury or high-end fashion environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of pattern cutting, draping, garment construction and finishing.
  • A good understanding of fit, proportion, balance and the relationship between fabric, pattern and finished garment.
  • Experience working across a variety of garment categories, including dresses, shirts, trousers, tailoring and outerwear.
  • Confidence working with natural materials, including cotton, linen, wool and silk.
  • Ability to interpret design concepts and develop accurate technical solutions while maintaining the original design intention.
  • Experience taking garments from initial development through to production.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A collaborative, practical and solutions-focused approach.
  • A genuine appreciation for garment construction, materials and craftsmanship.
  • A considered approach to pattern cutting, balancing technical precision with an understanding of design.
  • Comfortable working in a small team, enjoying close collaboration throughout the development process, and contributing to the quality and consistency of our collections.
  • Experience with leather, shearling, bridal or bespoke garments would be a plus.
