Overall purpose

The primary function of this role is to support the Studio, Production and Ecommerce teams through the delivery of retouched photographic images across Fashion (mannequins and accessories) and Homeware. Retouched Product shots will contribute to the company’s Ecommerce goal; helping to drive the commercial and creative vision of the Laura Ashley brand, which ultimately works to enhance conversion and profitability.

Dimensions:

Retouch, code (SKU) and upload Fashion and Home product photography, including Packaging; fully utilising the home and fashion trackers and ensuring that they are fully maintained

Key results area:

  • A meticulous eye possessing a strong attention to detail in order for you to present the product in the best way possible, checking off the tracker to indicate the status of the product in its photographic/retouching cycle
  • Daily creation of the end of day (EOD) report, summarising any particular difficulties, which might have contributed to targets not being met, escalating missing images to the Photographer and Production Team
  • Attaining a retouching target of a minimum of 30 products per day

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Technical skills:

  •  Being fully proficient with Photoshop and digital photography methods as well as a high competency of Microsoft Office and digital management software
  •  Possessing good visual, colour matching skills and a trained eye for colour is essential
  • Competency in building Actions and automated processes
  •  Producing high quality and consistently beautiful images, ensuring that they are correctly exposed and colour consistent, cropping and processing all images, maintaining file size specification
  •  Performing quality assurance on all images to ensure a minimum percentage rejection rate
  •  Batching, colour correction including cloning and skin retouching, Process organisation flow and error minimisation
  • Taking the initiative and problem solving will be second nature, coupled with an ability to work effectively with other team members particularly the Ecommerce team to trouble shoot issues pertaining to lost/missing images
  • Effective file management – keeping all images in their appropriate story/season
  • Being the gatekeeper - ensuring that all products are shot to style guide and do not require time consuming retouching; rejecting images where necessary
  • Working with the Photographer to set out best practice for shooting product to ensure uninterrupted process flow
  • Checking that all images shot by the in house and/or Freelance Photographer are coded accurately; ensuring that all products have a minimum of 3 alt images
  • Checking the Buying team’s Photography trackers particularly Home to ensure that the appropriate alt and detail shots have been taken
  • Ensuring that no products are handed over by the Photographer without a shoot list or sku identification
  • Ensuring that products received relate to the product description on the tracker/shoot list, being aware of any discrepancies and raising them with the Production Team.
  • Following the Laura Ashley retouching style guide to ensure that products are always retouched consistently and to a high standard
  • Meeting strict daily and weekly deadlines, studio targets will be achieved each day due to excellent organisational skills
  • Uploading/downloading images daily and/or in a timely manner adhering to tight deadlines
  • Styling and shooting seasonal still life/cut out shots as and when required
  • Contributing to problem solving, initiating conversations, engaging actively in the weekly and/or other meetings and catch ups

Communication and interpersonal:

  •  Establishing and maintaining harmonious department relationships with the Production Manager, Retoucher, Sample Assistant and Production Coordinator
  • Demonstrating and maintaining a professional presence in and around the studio – being a role model
  • Providing feedback to Management on studio related issues
  • Ensuring that all freelancers are aware of fire exits and health and safety protocol
  • Providing feedback on any new freelancer trials

 
Flexibility and team work:

  • The ability to rapidly adapt to changes in the photographic schedule
  • Remaining calm and professional in pressured situations whilst maintaining a positive and proactive attitude. This role demands a team player who is eager to learn and develop and can grasp new information quickly.
  • Encompassing the flexibility and ‘can do’ attitude and ability to think outside of the box and bring new ideas to the team. Ability to work within a team, excelling under pressure with a flexible attitude is a must
  • Maintaining a professional and productive working environment
  • Being proactive in suggesting new ways of working and a collaborative support to the Studio Management

Organisation:

  • Ensuring daily queries and e-mails are answered efficiently, being aware of the daily studio schedule and reading it daily
  • Responsible for the care and upkeep of the retouching studio. Maintaining a pristine studio environment working with the Sample Assistant to ensure that products are exited out of the studio once retouched

Personal Development:

  • Engaging in and seeking out training and development initiatives/opportunities, utilising the internal skills of different members of the department/freelance team

Bench marking:

  • Being fully engaged with the initiative to turn grow online sales by researching current styles and trends within ecommerce photography
  • Working with any team be it permanent or freelance to produce world class e-commerce imagery based on inspiration and catwalk trends
  • Being fully committed to the initiative to improve image availability on line across Home and Fashion.
