Jens Laugesen Design is looking for a freelance Sample Machinist 

The successful applicant will work on a garment project for an exhibition in Denmark, focusing on deconstructing men’s shirts and rebuilding them into six final exhibition pieces.  The work will be process-led, requiring precision, consistency, and respect for the original garment structure.

Key Tasks of the Sample Machinist:

• Unpick existing shirts cleanly and efficiently and reconstruct them into new garments based on a provided prototype.
• Collect materials and receive initial guidance at a studio in east London.
• Execute sewing with strong attention to finish and detail.
• Maintain consistency across all six pieces.
• Manage your own workflow and timeline.
• Work independently from home to complete the garments.

What Jens Laugesen Design is looking for:

• Strong sewing ability with clean finishing.
• Experience in unpicking and garment reconstruction.
• Hands-on experience in garment construction.
• Confidence working with toiles, samples, or small production runs.
• Ability to follow a prototype accurately.
• Structured and deadline-driven working method.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Able to work fast without compromising quality.
• Reliable and organised.
• Comfortable translating a concept into a finished garment.

Working Details:

• Initial studio session in east London with remote work thereafter.
• All materials will be provided.
• Final delivery deadline is the end of May.
