About: We are the leading monogramming business in the UK with a in-house designed product line and a 12 year track record of designing and producing every bespoke order in London. We have recently opened a new monogramming studio within the John Lewis-owned Peter Jones department store where we offer our bespoke monogramming service to shoppers, with embroidery while they wait.

Initially, London seeks an outgoing, experienced Sales Associate passionate about customer service to join the monogramming studio at Peter Jones in Sloane Square.

At the heart of one of the UK's most exciting retail environments, the successful applicant will join a supportive team to build performance in this brand-new part of our business, raise its profile within John Lewis and beyond, and, most importantly, create a design-led shopping experience for our customers.

This isn’t a typical Sales Associate role; it’s a platform for growth within a new division of the business.  It’s also an opportunity to learn about retail from within the John Lewis Partnership ecosystem, one of the best in the world, with exposure to directors and leaders who regularly visit the store to see what excellence looks like.  This role isn't transactional sales; it's a design-led shopping experience for goods made to order on the shop floor, working as a team with the production staff; it's a detail-oriented, teamwork-based role.

This position offers a creative, fun and engaging environment for a motivated retail sales associate with a desire to assume increasing management roles as the business expands.  This is quite an untraditional retail role that combines textile design, a design-led shopping experience, and made-to-order production.

Duties of the Sales Associate:

  • Oversee daily shop operations, ensuring efficient operation of the business while meeting excellent customer service standards.
  • Manage customer enquiries with professionalism, courtesy and a proactive, helpful attitude, whether it's for a shopper asking directions around the shop floor or a VIP client.
  • Take meticulous and detailed order notes and support the production team in executing those orders, prioritising deadlines and managing clients' pre- and post-order questions.
  • Use our Shopify POS system to enter orders and track progress.
  • Maintain a neat and attractive retail space that encourages customer interaction and promotes our monogramming service effectively.
  • Market our business proactively to shoppers in store as well as by developing relationships with shop staff and with other shops in the Sloane Square neighbourhood.
  • Meet a defined set of KPIs, helping to set those sales goals and develop strategies to maximise revenue and optimise the monogramming studio concept.
  • Analyse sales data to identify trends and implement improvements in sales management strategies.
  • Handle administrative duties such as weekly sales reports, client databases, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Foster a positive team environment through leadership, motivation, clear communication and teamwork.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the shop environment.

What Initially London is looking for:

  • Experience, with references, within retail or similar customer-facing environments
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Fluent in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A willingness to be proactive and brand-positive with shoppers and passers-by to bring new clients into the business.
  • Familiarity with Shopify retail management software and point-of-sale system is a plus.
  • An interest in textiles, graphic design or fashion is a plus.

Why This Role Is Special:

  • It’s our first shop within our John Lewis Partnership collaboration in the most visible, high‑impact location in our business, so the role requires someone happy to be the face of Initially London while on duty.
  • You’ll work closely with the founder of the business as well as John Lewis Partnership executives
  • You’ll influence retail standards across both the Initially London and John Lewis brands, and have high-level interactions with other Sloane Square-based brands.
  • You’ll be part of a high‑performing, creative, passionate team
  • You’ll have genuine opportunities to progress quickly and develop a wider range of skills than a traditional retail role.

Initially London Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Discounted or free food in company canteen
  • Employee discount
